Good evening, this is Gina Dunn, your assistant principal with important reminders for this upcoming week. This is the last Sunday call out for the 2021/2022 school year.

May 30

White Oak sends warm wishes on this day of remembrance.

May 31

June 1

The schedule is different on water day for some grade levels and some grade levels have MI time  changes. Please discuss this with your student so they are aware that the schedule may not be the normal daily schedule they are used to.

June 2

As another school year comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours all of the very best for the summer. May it be a safe, healthy and happy one.

We are all very proud of our students and would like to congratulate them on completing another successful school year. You can be very proud of them and how they represent you, their families and their school on a daily basis.

We would like to wish those who are leaving us all the very best in future endeavors. We hope that you will look back fondly on your time here White Oak Elementary School.

For those of you returning, we are already looking forward to welcoming you back on Monday, August 29th to begin another school year full of educational activities and learning opportunities. You can find the academic calendar for next school year on the Carteret County Public Schools website. Click the calendar tab and the 2022/2023 CCPS PreK - 12 Academic School Calendar.

Let’s finish strong, Wildcats! See you on Tuesday!

May 22, 2022

Good evening, this is Gina Dunn, your assistant principal with important reminders for this upcoming week.

This past week our students began taking the End of Grade tests.  This week Math EOG testing will be on Tuesday, May 24. The Read to Achieve Test for 3rd grade as well as Science EOG for 5th grade will take place on Wednesday, May 25.  Students need to be on time, especially those in 3rd - 5th grade, due to no interruptions once testing begins. None of these students can check out early (at least not until testing is over) for the same reason of no interruptions. Please make sure students are well-rested on test day. Request that your child go to bed early the night before EOG tests begin. Make sure students eat breakfast on the day of the test. Hunger can detract from a good test performance. Breakfast will be provided for all students who need to eat when they arrive at school. Please encourage your child to do their best. We know they will!!

Our kindergarten through second grade students are completing their end of year assessments as well. Please talk to your child about all the testing going on. Movement through the building will be very quiet and minimal. Schedule changes will take place for MI and recess. Schedule changes will also take place for some classes for lunch. Please talk to your child about these changes so they are aware and prepared.

The end of this grading period is Monday, May 23. Friday, May 27 is the PreK promotion celebration. Also, Friday is the last day to pay dues that your student may owe.

School is not out. We are still in session. Please discuss this with your child. Rules and procedures are still in place and we want to finish strong. We certainly want to have a fun end of the year but we want to remain safe while doing so.

One more thing, in regards to the humid, high temperatures we are having, please send a water bottle to school with your child each day.

Ok, see you tomorrow to start our last full week of school!

Have a great evening!

May 1, 2022

Good evening, this is Gina Dunn, your assistant principal. Can you believe it is May already? Before you know it, we will blink and it will be June.

This is a reminder that you can view this message on our school website by clicking on the tab  “News” and then “Weekly Callout.”

The cafeteria started selling snacks last Monday. Ice cream is $1 and chips are .75. Please have your child bring in money for snacks if they want to buy snacks at lunch. Snacks are only sold at lunch. Please remember, we can’t tell your child they can only have one snack at a time if they bring money unless you have stated otherwise. Some students are buying two ice creams and a bag of chips at lunch. Then, they don’t eat their lunch. So if you don’t want your child to do this, please let your child’s teacher know.

Thank you so much to all who came out to our virtual author event on Thursday night. We dressed in our pajamas and listened to author Sandra Markle talk about writing books and she did some neat science experiments for the students too. All students were given a new book and cookies and milk on their way out. It was great to see you back in the building.

This week on Tuesday, May 3, 2nd grade takes a field trip to Sturgeon City AND on that same day kindergarten takes a field trip to the aquarium.

Friday, May 6 is an early release day. Students will dismiss at 12 noon. That morning, the Emerald Isle Fire Department will be on campus teaching our students about water safety and the beach warning flags. Each color flag indicates a specific hazard on our beaches. It is so important that families know what these flags mean. The Town flies these flags at both Regional Beach Access facilities and on all Town beach patrol vehicles patrolling and providing services on the beach strand. Please look for these warning flags on our beaches and know what they mean, so that you can avoid hazards and have a safe and enjoyable beach experience. Be sure to ask your child what they learned and what each flag means.

Also, this coming week is Teacher Appreciation week. Let’s show our teachers and staff members some love! This is a great opportunity for your child to write a nice note to a teacher and let them know how much they are appreciated. Our teachers deserve it and they are worth it.

It’s going to be a great week at White Oak. We look forward to seeing you in the morning.

8/30/21

Hello White Oak Families,

Our first week of school went well!  We needed to find some additional instructional time in our day without extending the school day.  The dismissal bell does not ring until 3:00 pm. Last year and previous years, the dismissal bell rang earlier and the buses were leaving the bus parking lot around 3:00 pm.  This is why it seems to be taking longer to get the buses off the lot and the car riders to the front for dismissal.

Tomorrow is the first full day for all kindergarten students.  Please help our kindergarten students learn their colors by wearing something red on Monday, blue on Tuesday, yellow on Wednesday, green on Thursday, and orange on Friday.

Wednesday, September 1st is the first full day for our pre-K students.  Please pay close attention to those staff members who are directing traffic on campus.  We request that you refrain from being on your cell phone for the safety of all concerned.

Looking ahead – Monday, September 6th is the Labor Day holiday.  No school for students and staff.

Thank you and have a good evening!

8/20/21 Good Evening White Oak Families,

Let the 2021-2022 school year begin! This is going to be a GREAT year! I know we all want to get back

to what normal was before the pandemic. In the meantime, we will continue to make the best of the

situation and not let it interfere with the things we need to do. It is time to rock and roll!

Parents – please make sure your child has a mask or face covering, unless your child qualifies for an

exemption, as it is required for the first two weeks of school per the Board of Education. The mask or

face covering is required for bus riders and while inside the building.

Bus riders – please be at the bus stop five to ten minutes earlier in the morning than the estimated time

given to you AND please know that the drop off times may be earlier or later b/c it takes a few days to

get the times regulated as the ridership fluctuates at the beginning of a new school year.

Car riders – parents please make sure your child is sitting on the passenger side or the right-hand side of

your vehicle so that your child can safely exit when t is time to do so. Students are not permitted to get

out of the car on the driver’s side. Please make car seat arrangements now so that your school age child

can get out the vehicle as requested.

We begin accepting children into the school at 7:25 am. At no time can a child be dropped off to wait to

be admitted into the building. Please keep in mind that our tardy bell rings at 8:00 am – please plan

accordingly.

It is unfortunate, but parents will not be able to walk their child or children into the building, not even

the first day. This is per our Central Office. We will have staff members spread throughout the hallways

to assist any child who needs help finding their classroom or any kind of help.

As a reminder – all children get free breakfast and lunch.

On behalf of our White Oak staff, we welcome you to the best elementary school in Carteret County!
